Why we do this

These are some of the reasons why we run the Santa Cruz Bible Church Basketball League:
Bring the Basketball Community together
Bring people together who love to play basketball. Players come from Watsonville, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Davenport, Aptos, Capitola and as far away as Gilroy, San Jose and Salinas to play basketball in a safe environment.
Have Fun
Enjoy basketball for the love of the game, win or lose. Getting exercise while playing with respect for each other no matter if the players are great or suck, whether refs make good calls or bad, and whether or not mistakes happen at the scorers table!
Hear something about God / Jesus the Christ / Holy Spirit / Love
We believe in Jesus being the God (the only living God) of love and that His Spirit is still present today. Each week we will say something about Jesus and God at the game. We respect all people and beliefs, but will put out the challenge (not in your face) to each person to understand in their own mind and heart what they believe, and to ask themselves who Jesus is, and if He did die on the cross for their own unloving/sinful actions.

Experience Sincerity
Those who proclaim to believe in their heart and minds that Jesus is fully God should show a sincere brotherly/sisterly love to those they come in to contact with.
Accountability for Attitude
Each person will be accountable for their attitude. I guarantee that not everything will go your way. There will be bad calls, your teammates will make bad decisions and players on the other team will frustrate you. There is a way to handle each one of these situations without slamming the ball, yelling at the ref, saying f that, etc. If becoming a bad sport is how you handle your emotions, you can expect a technical foul to be given to you. A technical foul means 5 minutes on the bench, and the second one in a game then you will be asked to leave the building and miss your next game. All players are asked to encourage those who have a tough time with emotions to stay calm.
Bottom Line – You can be angry without loosing your cool.
