Home Groups

What is a Home Group?

A Home Group is like an extended family! It is, most often, a mixed group of young and old, married a nd single who do life together, like the Acts 2 church. The "mix" of people in a Home Group takes on the flavor of the people themselves as they invite friends and neighbors - and develop into an extended family.

What does a Home Group do?

Home Groups do life together. This includes the Small Group Core Elements and a lot more. Home Groups grow together spiritually, serve others as a group, and enjoy activities, the beach, and may collaborate to have a BBQ to reach out to their spiritually searching friends and neighbors.

When do Home Groups meet?

Home Groups routinely meet two to four times each month. Many groups may also meet on occasion to serve at weekend worship services, as Greeters, Ushers, Nursery workers; or serve as a group at all-church events such as Vacation Bible Camp, Car Care Clinic or weekend all-church BBQ's.

Members may also spontaneously meet in two's, three, or fours for coffee, walks, special prayer. This is often where relationship building best occurs.

What is the Purpose of a Home Group?

The Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) provide the purposes of a Home Group:

The Great Commandment tells us - love God with all your heart, mind and soul; and love your neighbor.

The Great Commission tells us - go make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to obey everything Jesus taught.

A Home Group fosters these principals in its members, and reaches out to others with the same purpose.

These two passages combine to create the essential elements of a healthy, growing, biblically-based Home Group:

  • WORSHIP - You were planned for God's pleasure.
  • FELLOWSHIP - You were formed for God's family.
  • DISCIPLESHIP - You were created to become like Christ.
  • MINISTRY - You were shaped for serving God.
  • EVANGELISM - You were made for a mission.
