"What Separates Us From Intimacy With God"
This week we are excited to have Chuckk
Gerwig, our Lead Pastor of Elevation, the
new high energy Sunday night service join us.
Chuckk loves to teach God’s Word in an
interactive, humorous and Scripture-centered
way. He is passionate about missions and
seeing people grow to look like Jesus. This
week’s message: The Wall - What Seprates
Us From Intimacy With God, will explore the barriers that get in the way of a
deep, honest, intimate relationship with our families, friends, God and those that
are unconvinced. We pray that God will speak to you in a special way.

We hope you’ll come away with a clear understanding of what a
relationship with God is all about, and why
believers all around the world are celebrating
Easter today with such conviction and joy.
Speaking this weekend we have a long time friend of SCBC, Darryl

If you live with a shrunken God, when you need to give somebody a strong word of confrontation or

"Christ in the Passover"
What do the Jewish Passover and Jesus’ Last
Supper have in common? David Brickner,
speaking on behalf of Jews for Jesus, will
answer that question in todays presentation
called “Christ in the Passover”.
David Brickner, has served with Jews for
Jesus for over 25 years and was unamimously
elected to head the inter-denominational
organization in May 1996. Brickner has written many books and articles from
a distinctly Jewish Christian perspecitve. His latest book is Christ in the Feast
of Pentecost. It is our prayer that you will gain insights on how the pieces of
God’s plan of salvation fit together, and you’ll remember this visual display of
the Passover pageantry for years to come.

"Its All About You, Jesus"
“It’s all about you, Jesus” – the words of the
powerful Matt Redman song does say it all. It
is all about the Lord Jesus Christ – the One
who left heaven to come to earth, who lived
a perfect, sinless life, who was crucified on a
cross, who rose from the dead, and who is now
living victoriously in heaven. The more we truly
grasp those facts and the more we give Him
our heart, the more we will want to worship Him in His majesty. Join me as we
catch a glimpse of the worship taking place in heaven, so that our worship and
our lives may be transformed here on earth today.

"Rest for the Weary and Burdened"
The New Year of 2008 has already posed some
challenges for our church body here at SCBC.
Several heart breaking losses of loved ones,
numerous illnesses and life-threatening diseases,
and a general feeling of “winter weariness” have
impacted just about all of us in one way or another.
Add to that financial concerns, job security issues,
conflicts in relationships, and the pressure of
personal addictions and we are all forced to look for
someone or something for help.
Fortunately, the Bible has a clear understanding of what can be done to provide Rest
for the Weary & Burdened. Join us today as we look at Jesus’ wonderful invitation for
us to come to Him and experience the “rest” only He can give!

Welcome to 2008!
Today, we begin a series titled “The Real
Inconvenient Truth”, a look at Biblical insights for
our daily living, covering a wide range of topics
– the Lord’s return, our responsibility as a citizen,
our view of life, our final destination… We won’t be
afraid to tackle controversial subjects or challenging questions. It should be exciting.

"I Want to Be What I am Not"
As we close out 2007 and sing the last carols celebrating
the birth of Jesus, we look to the new year curious about
what it will bring. Some people optimistically make New Year’s
resolutions but wonder if this will be the year they actually
become who they want to be. This weekend, please listen to
our Executive Pastor, Mark Schwenne to discover how God can
take the weaknesses and failures of our lives and use them to
show His grace and goodness to the people around us.

With all of the controversy over whether to say
“Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays”; with
all of the advertisements pressuring us to buy

of this time of year, it’s easy to take our eyes
off the real reason for the season: the birth of
the Lord Jesus Christ.

"A Time for Forgiveness & Hope"
While the start of the Christmas season should provide
us with a wonderful sense of joy and excitement, it
often does just the opposite. Pressures in the work
place, conflicts in our relationships, troubles with the
kids, and concerns about finances, combined with the
stress of a hectic schedule can make for a feeling of
detachment and discouragement.
But fortunately, the Bible tells us how we can regain
that feeling of optimism and encouragement. Join us for
these two weeks as we take a look at A Time For Forgiveness
And Hope, qualities of life
that will truly make this a Christmas to remember.

"Live Toward Eternity"
I hope everyone had a rich and blessed
Thanksgiving! Though another wonderful and
highly successful Missions Festival has come

for us, remains, “What do I do now? How do
I do it? How do I take our inspiring speakers’
messages (Stan, Tony, and Jim) and take that
next step in my life?”
Fortunately, as always the Bible points us to the right course of action. Join me today
as we look at a moving story from the life of the prophet Isaiah that will speak to our
hearts in an exciting and fresh way.

"Celebrate God"
Celebrations are landmarks in life. We celebrate first
birthdays and fiftieth anniversaries; weddings and
graduations; achievements and awards. Today we
Celebrate God with great praise at the completion
of our 21 Days of Impact. For the last 3 weeks we
have prayed and prepared for the impact that we, as
a Christian community, had on our county yesterday.
Celebrations are also prompts to move ahead… to
the 2nd birthday and the 51st anniversary and to
greater accomplishments. May today’s celebration
be your prompt to continue in prayer and service to
others, so that one day soon we as a Church can
celebrate when each person in Santa Cruz County has had the opportunity to trust Jesus Christ
as their Savior and Lord.

"Excel in the Grace of Giving"
The Bible reminds us that as followers of
Christ, we are to pursue excellence in all areas
of our life. Colossians 3:23 says Whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart, as
working for the Lord, not for men. The striving
for excellence honors the Lord and allows us
to be used by Him in a powerful way.
In today’s passage the Apostle Paul teaches
us to “excel in everything” - especially in the
“grace of giving.”

"Love God, Love Others, Serve the World"
There’s been lots of excitement about our
new SCBC Mission Statement: “Love God,
Love Others, Serve the World.” Now we
have the responsibility of living out this
directive not only in our church, but also
in our families, in our ministries, in our
community, and in all of our activities. But,
what does that look like? How do we, as
individuals, and corporately, as the Church,
truly demonstrate our love for God and
others and how do we go about serving the world? Join us as we take an in-depth look
at Scripture to find the practical application of our new mission statement.

"Finding Fulfillment"
Throughout His earthly ministry, Jesus
was driven by His mission. He said in
Matthew 20, “We are going up to
Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be
betrayed to the chief priests and the
teachers of the law. They will condemn
him to death and will turn him over to the
Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and
crucified. On the third day, he will be raised
to life.” The cross and the empty tomb were
always before Jesus, keeping Him focused on His mission.
As we unveil our new SCBC Mission Statement today, may it serve to keep
us, as the people of God, focused on the biblical mandate the Lord has called
us to pursue, for His Honor and Glory.

"Expect the Unexpected"
“God works in mysterious ways”! We’ve
all heard that phrase before. But, I think
a better way of saying it is “God works in
unexpected ways”! Whether by parting the
Red sea, speaking through a burning bush
(or a donkey!) or defeating overwhelming
armies without a fight, God’s Spirit is truly
able to do amazing things. We should come
to “expect the unexpected”. And we will see
that as we look at the life of Gideon today.
I believe that we, as the people of God and the church of God, should anticipate
this next season of ministry in this way, “expecting the unexpected”!

"An Unsung Hero"
Have you ever heard the phrase “An

unsung hero is someone who is willing

needing to be in the spotlight or be

Deal or No Deal
We begin a series in the
Old Testament Book of Daniel.
The challenges Daniel and his friends
faced over 2,500 years ago aren’t
very different from ones we face
today as we try to stand for God in
an ungodly world. Daniel struggled
to make choices that would honor
God and be consistent with his faith.
When faced with the hard question of,
“Deal or No Deal”, Daniel consistently
made the right choice and set a great

Living In A Loving Community
Belonging, being needed, caring for others and being cared for, are all part of sharing life together and the essence of community. This is the enviroment of true Christian fellowship. In a world that continally leads us toward isolation, separation, conflict, and discord, the Bible gives us a fresh picture of what Living in a Loving Community is all about and how we can experience it in our lives.

The Road to Financial Freedom
Did You know in the Bible there are 500 verses on prayer & 500 verses on faith, but 2,350 verses on money & possessions! The Bible says a lot about it because money does matter.

The Pursuit of Healthyness
"In the beginning, God"... these great words begin the Bible and are a great way to begin 2007. In the beginning of time, God created a perfect world for man and every living thing. As we study the Garden of Eden, we hope you'll discover that the Lord is amazing in His provision for the health of mankind's body, soul and spirit.

Drawing Near to God this Christmas
As December begins and our thoughts, energy and attention turn to Christmas, we hope you'll take time during these busy days to draw close to Jesus. During the next few weeks, we're going to look at those who were closest to our Lord during the first days of His earthly life.

Being Thankful
Sometimes the historical and biblical premise for Thanksgiving day gets lost in the trappings of all the festivities.
Thankfulness is more than a word, more than a day of family reunions. It is an ever present attitude that is commanded by God so our lives can be transformed and we can experience real joy and real peace.

Declare His Glory Among the Nations
November is the start of our Missions Festival that we look forward to with great expectation. The theme this year is "Declare His Glory Among the Nations." We will look at what God has done through SCBC this past year through testimonies, video highlights, and inspiring speakers. Take time to be challenged to become more missions focused in your daily life.
